Verisurf Software has added full application support for the API iLT laser tracker, bringing what API bills as "the world's smallest and most portable laser tracker" into Verisurf's CAD/CAM-based metrology platform. The integration lets operators run the iLT using the same inspection, alignment, assembly, and reverse engineering workflows Verisurf already supports across other measurement hardware.
The specs are the reason to pay attention. The iLT measures 14 inches tall, weighs under 20 pounds, and is fully battery-operated, small enough to fit in a backpack. An onboard camera handles target acquisition and tracking. API positions it for accuracy and performance comparable to full-size trackers despite the form factor, which is the claim engineers will want to verify against their own tolerance requirements before committing it to field work.
Verisurf's pitch rests on its hardware-agnostic architecture, which already connects to CNC CMMs, portable arms, scanners, and laser trackers from multiple vendors. Adding the iLT means a shop can move a tracker between the floor, the field, and distributed sites without changing software, workflows, or data standards. For teams running mixed equipment across facilities, that consistency cuts retraining and keeps measurement data in one model-based environment tied to design intent.
The combination targets manufacturers that need precision measurement in environments where a fixed system will not go. Verisurf frames the platform around closed-loop manufacturing, where parts are validated and assemblies guided in real time without stopping production. The portability of the iLT extends that to inspection points a full-size tracker cannot reach.
Laser tracker vendors have been pushing toward smaller, battery-run units as field metrology and large-part inspection move outside the controlled measurement room, and software interoperability is increasingly the deciding factor in which tracker a shop buys. Verisurf had not clarified whether the iLT support ships in its current release or arrives in a planned update by the time of publication.
