Verisurf Software has released Verisurf 2027, an update to its model-based metrology software that generates inspection plans directly from Quality Information Framework (QIF) files. The company says the release helps manufacturers "carry engineering requirements into inspection" and return results tied to the original design, from first article through production.

The central change is a native CAD-to-QIF workflow. Verisurf 2027 imports supported native CAD files that contain semantic Product and Manufacturing Information (PMI), then exports QIF files that retain the PMI, the engineering-defined inspection characteristics, and their Persistent Identifiers (PIDs). Semantic PMI lets software read dimensions and tolerances straight from the model, which cuts manual data entry and transcription errors. The software also supports STEP AP242 for exchanging 3D models with machine-readable dimensions and tolerances.

On the inspection side, Verisurf builds the plan from an imported QIF file, pulling in features, dimensions, GD&T, datums, tolerances, and reporting relationships. The PIDs persist through planning, measurement, reporting, and QIF Results export, so each measured value stays linked to the characteristic it evaluates. For a quality engineer, that produces a traceable record of what was measured and whether it met the requirement, without rebuilding the link by hand. A built-in QIF Results Viewer lets users review exported results without third-party utilities.

Reporting gets several additions. Verisurf 2027 automatically evaluates and reports Rule #1 compliance for circles and cylinders under ASME Y14.5. Feature-to-surface Construct Analysis lets teams reuse suitable measurement data for additional evaluations without remeasuring the part. The product page also lists a centralized Report Pane for editing characteristic IDs, report names, nominals, and tolerances in one workspace, plus Form Deviation Graphs that can be added to reports and Feature Balloons.

For scan-based measurement, the software extracts only the data an inspection needs rather than entire surfaces. Verisurf says this reduces high-frequency scan noise and improves R&R. Probe Compensation is now selected automatically based on the chosen Fit Method, and multiple path segments can be combined into a single workflow.

"Verisurf 2027 takes another major step forward by using STEP AP242, QIF interoperability, and Persistent IDs to maintain the connection between engineering intent and inspection results," said Ernie Husted, President of Verisurf Software.

The platform remains device-independent and supports portable measuring arms, laser trackers, scanners, and CMMs from different brands. Verisurf 2027 is available now, and customers with active maintenance can upgrade through their existing plans.
