Synera and Materialise have connected Materialise's Magics SDK to Synera's agentic AI platform, adding a marketplace connector that lets Synera's AI agents run Magics' build preparation tools without leaving the workflow editor. The connector covers automated and manual file-error repair, support structure generation and customization, and advanced file editing, the kind of "repetitive work that all engineers dread," in the words of Andrew Sartorelli, Partner and Product Management Lead at Synera. It is live now in the Synera marketplace.

Magics SDK is Materialise's 2024 release of the build-prep algorithms behind Magics, used by AM facilities for more than 30 years to fix file errors, optimize part orientation, generate supports, and slice models. "The connection with Synera allows for a tighter integration between design and build preparation workflows, providing designers with immediate feedback on manufacturability and build optimization directly within one environment," said Gilles Claeys, Partnership Manager at Materialise. What's new here is that those Magics functions now run as nodes inside Synera's visual editor alongside DfAM checks like cooling-channel and TPMS generation, so a part moves from CAD output to a print-ready file in one pass. For shops chasing failed-build rates, the appeal is consistency: every file gets the same automated repair and orientation checks, which the companies say reduces build failures and standardizes part quality across projects.

BMW AG was among the companies that helped shape the integration. "Performing file repairs repeatedly on hundreds of parts is one of the most time-consuming yet critical tasks in the workflow," said Johannes Kolb, an engineer at BMW, adding that the connector lets his team adapt build preparation to its own processes and automatically identify and fix common issues. Synera, the Bremen-based platform formerly known as ELISE, links more than 70 CAD, CAE, CAM, and PLM tools through a low-code visual editor and says DfAM workflows built on it run up to 10 times faster than manual equivalents.

The Materialise tie-up is the second AM marketplace addition Synera made in 2025. Earlier that year, the company integrated PanOptimization's PanX thermo-mechanical finite element solver, letting users simulate metal AM build outcomes, including part distortion and recoater interference, before a file reaches a printer. Materialise, a founding member of the Leading Minds Consortium, frames the Synera connector as part of a wider industry push on AM standardization, while Synera's own AM workflows remain centered on SLS and laser powder bed fusion processes.
