Prophesee has opened pre-orders for Embra HD USB, an event-based vision development camera built for industrial environments. The exploration kit is built around the IMX636 stacked Event-Based Vision sensor, developed jointly with Sony, and Prophesee says the combination delivers "sub-millisecond latency" at HD resolution with dynamic range above 120dB. The company positions the kit as a bridge from rapid prototyping to real-world deployment for Event-Based Vision applications.
The headline specs: 1280x720px resolution, a time resolution equivalent above 10,000 fps, temporal precision of 1 microsecond, and dynamic range beyond 120dB. Unlike a conventional camera, an event-based sensor doesn't capture full frames on a fixed clock. It reports pixel-level brightness changes as they happen. What's new here is that Embra HD claims frame-equivalent rates north of 10,000 fps in a 61 gram package, without the data volume a comparable frame-based high-speed camera would generate. Engineers running high-speed defect detection or vibration analysis on a production line will care about that data efficiency as much as the raw speed number.
Mechanically, Embra HD uses a die-cast, nickel-plated zinc enclosure rated IP30, measuring 29 x 29 x 17 mm and weighing 61 g, with four M3 fixing points for mounting. A standard C-mount accepts lenses ranging from 6 mm objectives to microscope and telescope imaging ports. Dedicated trigger and synchronization connections are built in for coordinating the camera with other equipment in a test setup, and a single screw-locking USB 3.0 connection handles both power and data, so the camera runs without a separate frame grabber.
The kit ships with a development license for Metavision SDK5 Pro, which Prophesee describes as its widest algorithm library to date: 64 algorithms, 105 code samples and 17 tutorials, plus binaries and source code for all modules and onboarding support. A separate commercial license is required for deployment beyond development.
Buyers also get free access to Hearth, Prophesee's "next-generation" Event-Based Vision software platform, once it becomes available, a detail that suggests the SDK on offer today is a placeholder for a broader software push still in the works.
