OMRON Automation has released the VHV5-SRV Barcode Verification System, a device that checks barcode quality directly on the production line at speeds of up to 1,200 parts per minute. The system is built to move manufacturers off beginning- and end-of-run sample checks and onto what the company calls "100% inline barcode verification" grading every code as it is produced rather than pulling a sample at intervals.

The change matters because catching a degraded or unreadable code after a batch ships, or after a customer rejects it, is expensive. Verifying each code on the line lets quality teams correct marking problems earlier. What separates the VHV5-SRV from simple barcode grading is calibration: the system uses a third-party calibration card to support proper ISO/IEC verification rather than the uncalibrated grading that some inline readers offer. Quality engineers who have justified sample-only checks on speed grounds will care about getting calibrated verification without stopping the line.

On standards, the VHV5-SRV verifies to ISO/IEC 15416 for 1D barcodes, ISO/IEC 15415 for 2D codes, and ISO/IEC TR 29158 for Direct Part Mark codes, with support for GS1 syntax and data structure rules. It combines a barcode reader and a verifier in one unit, so a plant can add verification while replacing or upgrading an existing reader instead of buying a separate machine.

For automotive and aerospace work, the DPM support addresses a long-standing gap by confirming mark quality on the actual production part rather than an offline coupon. Flexible lighting, internal or external, handles marks on curved or irregular surfaces, and automatic flat field correction compensates for uneven illumination across setups. Calibration runs through a browser-based, step-by-step interface.

The system reads a wide symbology range, including QR Code, Data Matrix, Aztec Code, DotCode, PDF417, and several postal codes, and connects over Ethernet TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, or PROFINET. Its IP69K enclosure rating points at the markets OMRON names for tighter traceability, pharmaceuticals, food, and commodities, where line equipment has to survive high-pressure washdown.
