OMNIVISION has announced two global shutter CMOS image sensors for industrial machine vision, the 5MP OG05D and the 12MP OG12S10. The company calls the OG05D the "industry's first" 2.2-micron, 5MP global shutter sensor with HDR, aimed at barcode scanners, factory automation, compact AI cameras and humanoid robotics, particularly data-collection devices for robot training.

The OG05D reaches 146fps in linear mode, which OMNIVISION says is 143 percent faster than the previous generation. It is also 30 percent smaller and draws 30 percent less power than the prior 5MP part. The backside-illuminated sensor comes in a 1/2.5-inch optical format with a 6.6 x 5.3mm package. Its pixel delivers more than 70dB of HDR, and the dual conversion gain mode combines single-exposure HDR on-chip at 60fps. A three-exposure HDR mode also runs at 60fps. With Nyxel near-infrared technology, quantum efficiency exceeds 55 percent at 850nm and 35 percent at 940nm. The sensor supports RGB, mono and RGB-IR, with on-chip RGB-IR re-mosaic.

The OG12S10 targets factory automation and intelligent transportation systems. It pairs a 3.45µm backside-illuminated pixel in a 1.1-inch format with 4096 x 3072 resolution and runs up to 75fps. Exposure times go as short as 1µs, and shutter efficiency is 106dB. In dual conversion gain mode it offers 74dB of dynamic range, 20,000-electron full well capacity and 2.8-electron read noise. A 12-bit ADC handles conversion. Nyxel raises quantum efficiency to 60 percent at 850nm and 40 percent at 940nm, which OMNIVISION puts at five times the figure of its existing 3.45µm product. Interfaces are 16-lane sub-LVDS at up to 1.1Gbps and four-lane MIPI.

For engineers building inspection and measurement cameras, the global shutter is the relevant feature. Metrology and Quality News notes that rolling-shutter sensors can introduce positional errors when a part or camera is moving, while exposing all pixels at once avoids that effect. "In situations where speed, vibration and motion are constant, maintaining image clarity becomes critical," said Kelly Yan, staff marketing manager at OMNIVISION.

OMNIVISION showed the sensors at the VISION show in Stuttgart, Hall 10, Booth 10D10, October 6–8. The OG05D is sampling now and enters mass production in Q4 2026. The OG12S10 comes in a ceramic land grid array package, samples in November 2026 and also reaches mass production in Q4 2026.
