Mitutoyo Corporation has unveiled two new coordinate measuring machine probes, the MPP-002 small high-accuracy scanning probe and the MTP-002 small high-accuracy touch-trigger probe, with deliveries scheduled to begin in September 2026.

The MPP-002 uses independent detection springs for the XY and Z axes, a structural change Mitutoyo says significantly reduces mechanical wear and lowers the likelihood of probe failures compared to shared-axis designs. The probe also accepts a wide range of stylus lengths from a single probe body, cutting initial investment by eliminating the need for multiple probe configurations across different measurement tasks.

The more technically distinctive of the two is the MTP-002. At Ø13.5 mm in diameter, it is suited for machines where head clearance is tight. The interesting part is its software-based sensitivity adjustment. In conventional touch-trigger probes, preventing false triggers when using long styli or operating in high-vibration environments typically requires hardware modifications at the probe or controller level. The MTP-002 handles this through software alone, reducing the expertise and time needed to adapt the probe to different shop conditions.

The MTP-002 is also compatible with automatic stylus change systems, enabling fully unattended inspection routines. Together, the two probes target a common shop-floor friction point: downtime from probe failures and manual reconfiguration interrupting CMM availability.

Mitutoyo has not published pricing for either model. The company says both products were developed in response to longstanding requests from CMM users seeking probes that combine high measurement accuracy with long-term durability, a combination that has historically involved tradeoffs between sensitivity and service life.
