MICROTECH has expanded its DataMet line with two precision instruments aimed at Industry 4.0 shop floors: a family of manual height gauges with optional non-contact probing and a computerized three-point internal micrometer that resolves down to 0.1 micron. Both run the company's MICS computerized measuring system and support wireless and USB HID data output.
The internal micrometer is the more specialized of the two. It covers bores up to 1000mm, roughly 40 inches, and reaches depths of 3000mm, with selectable resolution at 0.1, 1, or 10 microns. MICROTECH builds it around a color touchscreen, available in 1.54-inch and 2.4-inch versions depending on configuration, and packs in functions that move beyond a simple readout: internal memory with a statistics mode, color Go/NoGo limit indication, a Min/Max peak capture, a timer for triggering reads, and a formula mode that applies an Ax2+Bx+C calculation to the displayed value. Temperature compensation and mathematical error compensation are built in. Engineers measuring deep bores will care about the 3000mm depth reach, which is well beyond the working range of most handheld three-point gauges. Power comes from an internal rechargeable Li-Pol battery with a magnetic charger.
The DataMet manual height gauges target a different job. They offer a 2D measuring mode using an external wireless indicator for contact work, connect to a 5-axis probe, and use a Swiss reading system rated to 0.5 micron resolution. Operation runs through a 3.5-inch touchscreen, and the gauges carry the same multimode wireless and USB HID output as the rest of the DataMet range.
Data flows to Windows, iOS, and Android over wireless, while USB HID acts as a keyboard-mode input across Windows, MacOS, Linux, and Android. That cross-platform spread is the practical hook for QA teams that mix operating systems on the floor and want readings dropped straight into existing software without a vendor driver.
Both instruments pass metrological control in MICROTECH's accredited ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory. The company has patented more than 130 products and measuring solutions since 2014, and the two releases sit alongside a separate 2025 to 2026 roadmap that includes height gauges with a laser probe for 2D non-contact measurement and DataMet instruments using the MODBUS RTU protocol.
