Leica Microsystems and Cognex have announced Aivaro AI Feature Detection, an AI software module that identifies, classifies and measures defects and other features of interest during microscope inspection. The module runs inside Leica's Enersight software platform and builds on vision software AI technology from Cognex.

Training effort is the headline spec. A ready-to-train base model needs only 5–10 images per class for many sample types, according to Leica's product page. Users mark features of interest with a magic wand tool or freehand drawing. Detected features are grouped into classes, each shown in its own color, and the module highlights and measures them in both live and acquired images. Results are saved with the image.

The module also generates reports with minimum, maximum and average values. For quality engineers, the pitch is repeatability. Microscope settings and imaging parameters from a previous inspection can be recalled and reproduced, and an Assist workflow builder transfers task instructions and system settings to other workstations. Those can be shared along with the AI models themselves.

"Manufacturers need a practical way to improve inspection consistency and productivity," said Nicolas Pierre, Vice President and General Manager Life Science and Applied Solutions at Leica Microsystems. He said that integrating the module into the familiar Enersight platform helps quality teams standardize workflows and support consistent inspection decisions across sites.

Processing stays on the production floor. The module runs on standard hardware, and data is processed and stored locally, so no cloud connection is required. Leica says it is compatible with a wide range of its solutions and lists electronics, battery production, transportation, medical devices, and chemistry and polymer processing as target environments. The software also includes AI-supported onboarding for new users.
