Intrinsic showed the Intrinsic Intelligence Cell at Automate 2026, a modular, software-defined workcell architecture built on IntrinsicOS. The system demonstrated electronics assembly tasks with a FANUC robot on the show floor, and a customized version is scheduled to be piloted at Foxconn production facilities later this year.
The Intelligence Cell is built around a skill-based automation model in which AI capabilities, including object and pose detection, automated motion planning, intelligent grasping, and sensor-guided operations, function as combinable building blocks rather than custom-programmed routines. What's new here is the reference design framing: automation providers and system integrators can adapt the architecture for their own solutions without rebuilding every layer from scratch.
Intrinsic is targeting the cell at a broad range of production environments, from machine shops running high-mix, low-volume programs to large-scale contract manufacturers. Wendy Tan White, CEO of Intrinsic, said the intersection of AI and modular production "allows manufacturers of all sizes to build in new ways, and fundamentally shifts the economics of production."
On the machine tending side, Intrinsic is working with CNC automation specialists Trinity Automation and Martin Systems to integrate AI-powered skills into next-generation machine tending applications. The goal is to bring robotics capabilities to machine operators who lack specialist programming skills, with vision-guided insertion and precision part handling expected to improve throughput in high-mix environments.
The company cites an addressable ecosystem of more than 1.3 million ROS developers alongside systems integrators and machine tool builders as the longer-term deployment path. Foxconn is the only named customer commitment so far, and the pilot will mark the first high-volume test of the Intelligence Cell in an electronics assembly environment.
