IDS Imaging Development Systems has expanded its uEye FA camera series with five new models built around Sony STARVIS 2 rolling shutter sensors, covering resolutions from 2 to 12.5 megapixels. The additions, available from late July, target factory automation and quality inspection applications where cameras face high-pressure washdowns, heavy contamination, or sub-zero temperatures.
The five sensor variants span the IMX662 at 2 MP, IMX664 at 4 MP, IMX675 at 5 MP, IMX678 at 8 MP, and IMX676 at 12.5 MP. All models are GigE Vision-compliant, allowing them to integrate into existing system architectures without protocol changes.
What distinguishes the Sony STARVIS 2 sensors is light sensitivity extending into the near-infrared range, low noise levels, and Sony's Clear HDR process for expanded dynamic range. Engineers working in environments with variable ambient light or NIR illumination can capture sharp detail without deploying a dedicated NIR camera alongside a standard one.
The camera housing, lens tube, and cabling all carry IP69K certification, meaning the units withstand high-pressure, high-temperature water jets and remain operational at temperatures down to -20°C. An asynchronous exposure trigger adds timing flexibility for applications synchronized with production line events. Alexander Klingner, Head of Product Management at IDS, said the pairing of hardware and sensor technology "enables precise image analysis even in challenging environments."
The uEye FA expansion fits a broader pattern in machine vision of combining newer CMOS generations with ruggedized enclosures, reducing the need for operators to stock separate camera variants for clean and washdown environments. The new models became available in late July.
