Hexagon has released version 2026.3 of its VG software line for industrial CT and NDT analysis, spanning VGSTUDIO MAX, VGMETROLOGY, and VGinLINE. It is a broad update rather than one headline feature, but the change most likely to save real time is a pretrained AI model for pore detection.
The pretrained model targets porosity analysis in light-metal cast parts. Setting up AI pore detection normally means labeling a lot of scan data and running several training rounds before the model is usable. Because this model already knows what a pore in a cast part looks like, a shop needs less labeled data and fewer training cycles to adapt it to its own parts. For a casting quality team, that shortens the gap between installing the tool and getting a working inspection out of it.
The second substantial addition is on the metrology side. Users can now measure the length of freeform lines and the area they enclose, which makes it possible to measure the true circumference of a badly deformed hole or the length of a bent center axis, cases where a standard circle or line fit would give a misleading number. An "Auto fit points" option helps the line follow a deformed shape while holding accuracy.
Several changes speed up work across many parts at once. A new matrix view in the coordinate-measurement overview puts results from multiple parts in one table, so an inspector can compare them and spot outliers at a glance. Local coordinate systems now carry over automatically when their defining geometry is copied into a pattern, and elements added to a pattern can be fitted to every position at once instead of one at a time. Complex viewports, such as unrolled or profile views, can now be saved as reusable views and dropped into reports or automation.
The release also sharpens reporting and setup. Generating interactive 3D result images for HTML reports is significantly faster, a new 2-by-2 layout puts four view images on one report page, and tolerances for porosity and inclusion analysis can be pinned so they stay selected across repeated analyses. Surface-determination settings can now be saved as a default rather than re-entered each run. On the automation side, VGinLINE's internal communication has been streamlined for better reliability on lower-powered hardware, and its worker component no longer needs a separate Remote Control Service to install.
