Glimpse has launched Explore, a new package for its browser-based Glimpse Portal CT software that the company says brings "X-ray vision to all hardware teams." It joins the existing Battery and Automate packages and extends Glimpse beyond batteries into medical devices, aerospace, automotive, additive manufacturing, and electronics.
Explore is a scan viewer and sharing platform for everyday, largely lab-based inspection. Users can step through every cross section at full resolution, take measurements, and compare scans side by side. According to Glimpse, the Portal opens 100-gigabyte scans in seconds in a browser tab on an ordinary laptop, with no software to install and no CT experience required. It reads data from any scanner, and subscriptions cover unlimited users. The company is SOC 2 Type 2 certified and ITAR compliant.
For quality engineers, the change is in who looks at the scan. Patrick Herring, Glimpse's Chief Software Officer and cofounder, said most engineers never review the CT scans they request. A lab operator with limited context reviews the scan and sends back a report or a handful of screenshots. "With Explore, anyone can open a scan themselves in a browser and look at whatever they need to see," Herring said.
Teams without a scanner can use Glimpse's Scan On Demand service. Customers ship parts, trained operators scan them, and the high-resolution results appear in the Portal right after scanning. A second Scan On Demand center opens in the Bay Area in October 2026, joining the existing Boston-area site. Explore is available through Scan On Demand and in limited deployment for teams with their own CT scanner. Broader availability is planned for early 2027.
Glimpse's customers include NASA, Lucid Motors, Anker, and Amprius. The company built its position in battery inspection, where conventional CT has been too slow to sample more than a handful of cells per day. The Battery package's high-throughput scanning module cuts scan time by 10–30 times, which Glimpse says lets battery makers sample hundreds of cells per day and beyond. Inspection algorithms trained on millions of cross sections handle the review volume that operators cannot do by hand. The Automate package targets repeated inspection of the same part, with custom computer vision algorithms feeding results into quality monitoring dashboards.
Anyone can try the Portal through a free demo that hosts more than 1,000 real CT scans.
