Hexagon's Manufacturing Intelligence division has released Geomagic Control X 2026.1, folding control for ZG handheld scanners directly into the scan-based inspection software and adding scripting and reporting tools built for automated workflows. What was a separate plugin now ships by default, and the update pairs it with the ability to export DMIS reports straight from the software's Automation Server. Hexagon positions the release as validating scan data "across the entire product lifecycle."
The bundled ZG handheld support lets engineers set HHScan scanning properties from inside Control X. It works with the ATLASCAN, MARVELSCAN and HYPERSCAN, though target-free mode is not yet available on the MARVELSCAN. A separate plugin brings the HyperProbe into Control X through Live Inspect, and a new DefinSight plugin from Scantech replaces the older ScanViewer while keeping support for the same devices. Engineers who run handheld scans on the shop floor will care most about losing a setup step, since the scanner now feeds Control X without a standalone bridge.
On the automation side, the release adds scripting actions for transforming bodies, offsetting measured data and manual pairing, plus the ability to pause a script, select poly-vertices or poly-faces by hand, and feed that selection back into the run. That change makes automated mesh cleanup possible by scripting the deletion of selected mesh regions. The DMIS output, generated from Batch Process and the Automation Server, carries tolerance, deviation and pass/fail results for simulated CMM points.
Scan data processing also got quicker. Mesh decimation now reaches a target poly-face count 2x to 4x faster than before, and mesh splitting can run multiple cutting tools at once, project curves onto the nearest scan surface, and use planes as split tools. The underlying RDS engine moves to version 6.6, adding grayscale line scanning and Unicode support for project names and file paths.
Boundary inspection picks up the ability to import circles, slots and rectangles from scan data along with an auto-search option for faster boundary pairing, while the file layer can now read Leica Geosystems .LGSX files and recover corrupted native projects. Two of the supported handheld scanners, the CERESCAN and RIGELSCAN, remain available only in China, leaving the rollout uneven across regions.
