General Inspection, LLC has released the Gi-307, a 360-degree fastener inspection platform that runs dimensional measurement and surface defect detection simultaneously at up to 300 parts per minute. The system uses seven high-speed cameras with sequenced front and back lighting, a configuration the company says eliminates the speed-versus-accuracy trade-off common in conventional fastener sorting equipment.

The Gi-307 inspects threads, diameters, lengths, angles, radii, and straightness in a single pass while detecting surface defects including cracks, plating failures, corrosion, metal chips, and porosity. A dedicated on-axis camera examines head recesses across slotted, Torx, and Phillips drive profiles. Engineers running separate dimensional and visual inspection lines will find the single-pass consolidation the most practical part of the specification. "The Gi-307 was engineered to solve one of the industry's biggest challenges — achieving true high-speed dimensional inspection and surface defect detection in the same machine without compromise," said Greg Nygaard, VP at General Inspection.

An optional eddy-current module extends the platform to metallurgical validation, identifying improperly hardened parts before they enter assembly. The Gi-307 handles fastener diameters from M2 to M35 and lengths from 10 mm to 150 mm, a range General Inspection positions for automotive, industrial, medical, aerospace, electrical, and heavy-equipment applications.

General Inspection has commissioned the Gi-307 at four fastener manufacturing facilities in the United States. One deployment targets fasteners used in electrical transformers, where defective components can contribute to loosening, overheating, and internal short circuits. The company frames the rollout as evidence of a broader industry move toward fully automated, 100-percent inspection in high-volume fastener production.
