Detection Technology launched the X-Panel 4386a FPI on 15 June 2026, adding a second format to its X-Panel XL series of extra-large a-Si TFT flat panel detectors. The new unit targets high-speed industrial computed tomography with a 430 × 860 mm active area and frame rates the company says are "more than five times faster than many competing large-area detector solutions."

The 4386a uses dual-side readout architecture to reach 15 fps at full 3072 × 6144 resolution, 45 fps in 3×3 binning, and 90 fps in 6×6 binning. The 140 µm pixel pitch and 10G BASE-T interface carry over from the larger X-Panel 43108a, which covers 430 × 1080 mm and tops out at 22.5 fps in 3×3 mode. Engineers running high-throughput CT lines will note that the 4386a's more compact panel trades scan coverage for a frame rate that Tuomas Holma, Product Director at Detection Technology, says enables "entirely new system concepts."

Scintillator options include DRZ-Plus and direct-deposition Cesium Iodide, rated for X-ray tube applications up to 450 kVp. Unlike the 43108a, the 4386a includes internal shielding rated to that same 450 kVp limit, which reduces enclosure complexity for OEM integrators. Both detectors are characterized to ASTM E2597M-22 and ship with a Bad Pixel Certificate.

Stated applications include industrial CT and DR systems, automotive battery and large assembly inspection, aerospace composite inspection, and defense use cases such as the simultaneous single-scan inspection of multiple 155 mm artillery shells. Fraunhofer IIS has separately demonstrated the throughput argument for the larger 43108a using its PolyCT technology, scanning five objects simultaneously with that detector.

Detection Technology showed the XL series at ECNDT 2026 in Verona, Italy, which ran 15-19 June. Deliveries of the X-Panel 43108a have started. Customer deliveries of the X-Panel 4386a are scheduled to begin at the end of 2026, with both EU-origin and China-origin manufacturing options available.
