DAB-Embedded has released the Axo2 as a family of nine GMSL2 camera modules spanning 1 MP to 12.3 MP, with sensors sourced from Sony, Omnivision, and Onsemi.

All nine variants share an S-mount (M12) lens holder and a GMSL2 interface that carries low-latency video up to 15 meters, an advantage over USB3 Vision cameras, which typically require active extenders beyond 5 meters. Each module includes an integrated IMU for image stabilization or positional data, an integrated temperature sensor, and an IP-rated enclosure suited for harsh industrial environments.

The interesting part for machine vision engineers is the global shutter selection. Four variants eliminate rolling-shutter distortion on fast-moving targets: the Sony IMX568 at 5.1 MP and 96 fps, the Sony IMX900 at 3.14 MP and 117 fps, the Sony IMX392 at 2.3 MP and 167 fps, and the Omnivision OV9281 at 1 MP and 120 fps. The IMX392 tops the family at 167 fps at Full HD resolution, positioning it for high-speed dimensional inspection and traffic monitoring.

The remaining five variants use rolling shutters and target surveillance and low-light applications. The Sony IMX412 delivers 12.3 MP at 20 fps with near-infrared sensitivity. The Sony IMX415 covers 8.29 MP at 60 fps with wide dynamic range support. The Sony IMX335 offers 5.04 MP at 60 fps with HDR. The Onsemi AR0521 covers 5.07 MP at 60 fps in color or monochrome variants. The Sony IMX462 targets night vision at 2 MP and 120 fps, with a 2.9 μm pixel pitch.

The OV9281 monochrome variant, which uses OmniPixel 3 GS global shutter technology with near-infrared quantum efficiency, also appears in augmented reality and collision avoidance listings, suggesting the Axo2 platform extends beyond shop-floor inspection into robotic and automotive contexts. The GMSL2 bus traces its origins to automotive ADAS camera systems, where it earned a track record for synchronization and electromagnetic compatibility in high-noise environments, a lineage that may prove relevant as inspection cameras move into production-line robots and autonomous guided vehicles.
