Creality and Orbbec launched Pika, a dual-mode portable 3D scanner, on May 29 at Creality's 12th Anniversary "AI Ecosystem" product launch event. The device measures 100 × 60 × 35 mm and weighs 260 g, runs directly from a smartphone without a PC, and delivers blue laser scanning accuracy of up to 0.03 mm.
The technical foundation is a global shutter 3D camera architecture, which eliminates the motion blur and tracking drift that rolling-shutter systems produce during handheld use. In smartphone mode, line-laser scanning runs at up to 40 FPS and infrared mode reaches up to 20 FPS. Connected to a PC, line-laser performance climbs to 110 FPS. What's new here is that 110 FPS figure in a device small enough to pocket, which narrows the gap between portable and bench-top scanners for workflows like reverse engineering of small mechanical components.
Pika integrates two scanning technologies in a single unit: 7-line blue laser for fine surface detail and infrared structured light for larger objects, human-body capture, and marker-free workflows. The blue laser mode suits mechanical components, collectibles, and cultural artifacts where fine geometry matters. The infrared mode switches the device into a broader-capture role without additional hardware.
AI-driven algorithms handle object tracking, data processing, and workflow automation on-device. A body completion function generates complete 3D body models automatically, reducing manual editing for portrait and figure applications. The scanner also includes a built-in HD display for real-time preview and a quick-release replaceable battery for uninterrupted field use.
The launch coincided with Creality's debut on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. As part of an expanded partnership agreement, the two companies will establish a "3D Scanner Digital Joint Innovation Center" and jointly develop a next-generation AI vision platform for 3D printing applications. Orbbec and Creality have collaborated on 3D scanning and smart manufacturing products since 2023.
