AT Sensors has added the C7 XCS 3070 to its XCS series of high-precision 3D laser profile sensors. The new sensor resolves surface details down to 7.8 micrometers across a 24mm field of view, about the size of a single red blood cell, and moves data over a new NBASE-T interface and Laser Link connector at up to 5 Gbit/s. AT Sensors says that link delivers "five times more data throughput" and "five times faster 3D scans" compared with the 1-GigE interfaces used in its earlier inline sensors.

The C7 XCS 3070 is the first compact sensor built on AT's newly developed C7 platform, which now sits alongside the existing C6 XCS generation in the XCS lineup. Its 405-nanometer, laser class 3R line produces a Z-resolution of 0.13 micrometers, and AT Sensors says the line's homogeneous intensity distribution cuts the measurement uncertainty that uneven illumination introduces, particularly at high resolutions. The 5 Gbit/s interface also lets the sensor transmit profile, intensity, and reflection data simultaneously and without loss in real time, a task that previously required separate transfer steps.

AT Sensors also sells the C7 XCS 3070 in a WARP variant, which processes and preselects measurement data directly on the image sensor and reaches a profile rate of up to 94 kHz. Engineers inspecting BGA packages, solder joints, or other fine structures will care about that combination: a sensor precise enough to catch cell-sized defects, paired with a data link wide enough that the resolution doesn't bottleneck the inline scan rate. AT Sensors developed the sensor specifically for the semiconductor and electronics industries, citing advanced packaging and inspection of fine solder joints and microstructures as core use cases, alongside the XCS series' broader application list spanning AI chip inspection, coplanarity checks, eMobility and battery production, and automotive metrology.

The sensor ships in a newly designed, more compact housing intended for tighter installation spaces, and AT Sensors says the C7 platform stays compatible with its existing infrastructure, so current XCS installations can be expanded rather than replaced outright. The C7 XCS 3070 sits alongside AT's C6 XCS sensors, which the company distinguishes mainly by Ethernet interface, points per profile, WARP availability, and maximum profile speed, leaving integrators a choice between the two generations as they plan new inline inspection lines.
