Artec 3D has launched Artec Twins, a software platform for processing and rendering point clouds with billions of points. The company says it renders them at up to 200 frames per second "without any decimation or latency," and that environments of 100 km2 or more stay fully interactive.

Artec Twins began as software for the Artec Jet, the company's mobile, SLAM-based LiDAR scanner, and now takes in data from other sources. It fuses captures from any Artec 3D scanner, smartphones, drones and satellites into one dataset. Artec's suggested workflow pairs satellite, aircraft or Artec Jet data for wide scenes with the static Artec Ray II for finer detail and the wireless handheld Artec Leo for sub-millimeter accuracy. Exports go to third-party software as E57, LAS/LAZ, and common mesh and Gaussian Splatting formats. Processing runs locally.

This is the first time Gaussian Splatting appears in Artec 3D's software. Artec Twins generates and renders the splats itself, from either Artec Jet LiDAR data or photos and videos. Users can switch between point clouds, meshes and Gaussian Splats within a single project, and color, height, normals and intensity overlays are available on the data.

The analysis tools matter most to inspection teams. Users can build distance maps between point clouds, meshes or CAD references, take cross-sections, calculate volumes and fit primitives. Georeferencing and ground control point support place whole datasets in real-world coordinates. Artec says comparing as-built scans against design files lets users verify tolerances and monitor change over time.

"Most existing solutions ask users to compromise," said Art Yukhin, President and CEO of Artec 3D. He said Artec Twins handles very large datasets "without any trade-offs in speed, accuracy or scale."

Artec Studio remains the company's software for professional 3D scanning. Artec Twins targets monitoring, inspection and surveying work in AEC, mining, infrastructure and public safety. It is available now through the Artec 3D website and the company's global reseller network, according to a release dated October 8, 2026.
