Artec 3D has launched Artec Point II, the successor to Artec Point, its target-based handheld laser scanner for industrial metrology. The new model captures up to 5.8 million points per second, more than double the original's rate, while holding onto the certified 0.02 mm accuracy that made the first Point a standard tool on shop floors.
The jump in data capture comes from an expanded laser configuration: 54 laser lines in ultra-fast scanning mode and 17 parallel lines in hyperfine mode, according to Artec 3D. Operators switch between three scanning modes at the touch of a button. Ultra-fast scanning covers larger surfaces quickly, hyperfine parallel scanning pulls out intricate detail, and a single-laser mode handles deep holes and hard-to-reach features. Engineers who move between coarse assemblies and fine tolerances in the same job will care about not having to swap tools to do it.
Artec 3D says Point II's accuracy and repeatability are verified in an ISO-certified lab and comply with the VDI/VDE 2634 and JJF 1951 standards, the same benchmarks quality teams use to check parts against tight tolerances. "Artec Point set a high bar for accessible, certified metrology. Point II raises it, more data in every pass, greater detail, and faster scans, with the same accuracy professionals have come to rely on," said Art Yukhin, President and CEO of Artec 3D.
The scanner is palm-sized and built for one-handed operation, with enough tilt to reach into confined areas. It carries an IP50 dust rating and is built to run in temperatures from -10 to 40 degrees Celsius, specs aimed at manufacturing, mold-making, energy, and heavy industry environments rather than lab settings.
Point II runs on Artec Studio, the company's scanning and processing software, and can be paired with other Artec 3D devices on the same project, from reverse engineering to quality inspection. It's available immediately through Artec 3D's global network of certified partners. The company confirmed Point II replaces the original Point outright in its metrology lineup, rather than sitting alongside it as a higher-tier option.
