Allied Vision has released the SMR 10GigE, a redesigned high-speed-video recording camera for industrial imaging, process visualization and quality inspection. Built on a new hardware platform, the camera records up to 2,517 frames per second at 1,920 x 1,080 pixel (Full HD) resolution, stores footage on 32 GB of onboard memory and connects through a 10GigE interface that Allied Vision says helps "accelerate troubleshooting, quality inspection, and process optimization."
Frame rate scales up as resolution drops, a common tradeoff for high-speed sensors. At 1,024 x 768, the SMR 10GigE reaches 3,531 fps. At 512 x 512, it hits 5,275 fps. Allied Vision lists a maximum speed of 225,000 fps at further-reduced resolution, paired with a global shutter and 10 µm pixel size to keep fast-moving parts free of motion artifacts. Engineers chasing intermittent, fast failures on a production line will care about the 32 GB buffer in particular, since it allows longer recording sessions before footage has to be pulled off the camera over the 10GigE link.
The camera uses a closed housing to cut dust contamination risk on factory floors. Allied Vision also built it to support long cable runs, so the camera can sit wherever it gets the best view without forcing a PC into a tight or dirty spot nearby. It ships with VisualMARC3, a bundled recording application that lets users reduce resolution, adjust shutter time, program an external stop trigger and export video in multiple data formats. Allied Vision designed the software to be usable without prior high-speed camera experience.
Allied Vision is positioning the SMR 10GigE across electronics and semiconductor production, medical device testing, defense applications, food and beverage lines and sports analysis, framing it as a tool for visualizing rapid processes that engineers would otherwise miss with standard-speed cameras. The camera replaces earlier recording models in Allied Vision's lineup, which the company says offered lower frame rates, lower resolution and less onboard storage than the new 32 GB capacity.
