ALIO Industries has released the ThruSight-Theta Continuous Rotation Rotary Stage, a new addition to its motion product line built for applications that need rotational precision and a clear line of sight through the axis of rotation at the same time. The stage packs a 110 mm through-hole aperture into a body just 25 mm tall, and its ironless, axial-flux motor architecture eliminates cogging torque entirely, according to ALIO.

That combination addresses a specific problem on precision assembly lines: routing light, tooling, or process access through the center of a rotary axis without stacking extra height onto the machine. Cog-free operation also means smoother, more repeatable motion, since ironless motors skip the torque ripple that iron-core designs produce as magnets pass slotted stator teeth. ALIO rates the stage at 1 Nm of continuous torque for dynamic, high-duty trajectories with low jitter.

Position feedback comes from an absolute encoder that reports location immediately at power-up, with optional 1 Vp-p Sin-Cos analog and Digital AQB output configurations. Standard 3 m cables and multiple encoder options are meant to simplify integration into existing OEM automation systems rather than requiring custom wiring runs.

Digital pathology, genome sequencing, silicon photonics, and semiconductor packaging are the intended early use cases. ALIO points to clearer transmitted illumination for pathology scanners and backside access for microlens placement and coupling in photonics assembly, along with flip-chip bonding, de-bonding, wafer thinning, and laser ablation processes that need through-axis access. Engineers chasing sub-micron repeatability on stacked multi-axis systems will care about the height figure specifically, since less stack height means less moving mass and lower Abbe error.

The stage arrives as semiconductor packaging and photonics assembly lines push toward smaller, more crowded tool footprints, where every millimeter of stack height competes with optics, grippers, and process heads for space. ALIO has not published pricing or lead times for the ThruSight-Theta.
