Additive Assurance has signed a domestic distributorship agreement with NTT DATA XAM Technologies Corp. to bring its AMiRIS real-time quality assurance platform to Japan's metal powder bed fusion market. XAM will handle local sales, implementation support, and technical maintenance under the deal, targeting manufacturers in aerospace, automotive, and medical device sectors.
The move addresses a persistent gap in metal additive manufacturing at scale. As Japanese manufacturers shift from prototyping to series production, build quality variation and traceability difficulties have become recurring bottlenecks. What's new here is that AMiRIS provides in-process monitoring during each build, rather than relying on post-build inspection, making quality data available before parts leave the machine.
XAM's existing customer base is a notable asset for the rollout. The company will integrate AMiRIS with EOS and AMCM systems already installed in its accounts, offering manufacturers a path to real-time monitoring without overhauling existing equipment.
NTT DATA XAM Technologies traces its lineage to 1993, when its predecessor at NTT DATA Engineering Systems began distributing EOS systems in Japan, making it the country's first EOS reseller. XAM was established as a separate entity in 2020 to focus on the additive manufacturing business. Marten Jurg, CEO of Additive Assurance, cited XAM's "rich track record and exceptional technical capabilities" as the basis for selecting the partner.
The agreement positions Additive Assurance in a Japanese market where aerospace and medical device manufacturers face increasing regulatory pressure around part traceability. XAM's existing EOS and AMCM installed base gives the partnership an immediate pool of potential customers without requiring new machine investments.
